9th Annual Symi Symposium

The 9th Symi Symposium took place July 16-22, 2006 in Samos, Greece.

The principle theme of the Symposium was ‘Creative Cities in the 21st Century: How to Nurture Change, Growth and Sustainable Development’. Participants explored issues such encouraging citizens to participate in civic governance; creating pluralistic communities; the impact of technology and migration on urban environments; and how urban planning affects development, the environment, and quality of life at both the local and global level.

Convened every year on a different Greek island, the Symi Symposium is designed to nurture spirited debate in a discreet setting. Participants come from all over the world, and their divergent interests and backgrounds enliven both formal and informal conversations. The Symi Symposium has fostered ideas and friendships that have borne fruit in the form of significant projects, ventures, and public service.
